Centre seal for windows
Centre seals form the heart of modern window systems. They are located in the middle between the sash and frame and create an additional layer of protection alongside the rebate and glazing seals. This means they make a significant contribution to thermal insulation, sound insulation and airtightness. Draughts, driving rain and dirt are effectively kept out, while energy efficiency and living comfort are significantly improved.
Area of application
Centre seals are used in both new buildings and renovations. In new buildings, they ensure compliance with the high requirements of energy saving regulations and sound insulation, while in the replacement of existing windows, they improve their sealing function in the long term. Especially in multi-chamber profiles of plastic and wooden windows, the centre seal is crucial for a permanently tight closing system.
Materials for window centre seals
Three materials are available to meet different requirements:
- PVC – robust, easy to maintain and cost-effective; ideal for standard applications.
- Silicone – highly elastic, temperature and weather resistant:
- Talc-coated: facilitates installation by reducing friction and ensuring a clean fit.
- Non-talc-coated: provides a stronger hold in the profile, but requires more force to insert.
- TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) – flexible, durable and with high resilience; ideal for frequently used windows with a permanently tight seal.
Colours and custom colours
Standard colours are black, white, brown, grey, beige, transparent. For production quantities of 200 metres or more, almost any RAL custom colour can be supplied – for perfect visual integration into the window system.
Variants and models
- With tear-off strip – for flexible adjustment of the closing pressure over the entire surface or only partially.
- Foamed – with a soft structure for quiet, comfortable closing and optimum tolerance compensation.
Installation and maintenance
Installation must be carried out on clean, dry contact surfaces. Uniform insertion and checking the circumferential fit are crucial for proper functioning. Occasional cleaning with a mild detergent and visual inspections will significantly extend the service life.
