Clamping profiles and filling profiles
Clamping profiles and filling profiles are among the most important sealing solutions in vehicle construction, containers, machines and industrial plants. They are primarily used where sheet metal, doors or flaps need to be securely fastened and sealed at the same time. The big advantage is that they always work together: the clamping profile holds, the filling profile seals.
Clamping profiles and filling profiles: How does the system work?
The clamping profile is placed directly on the edge of a sheet metal or component. Its shape and often also a built-in metal core ensure that it sits particularly firmly and does not slip.
- The filler profile is then inserted into the clamping profile. This closes the opening, ensures a clean seal and prevents water, dust or air from entering.
The principle can be likened to a zip: neither part alone performs the desired function – only when combined do they create a complete seal.
Special advantages at GfA
To ensure that the combination always fits, our clamping and filling profiles are coordinated with each other. The product description contains clear information such as ‘Matching filling profile: ADTP-XXXX’. This makes selection much easier and prevents profiles from being combined incorrectly.
Materials and Shore hardness
The choice of material determines how flexible, resilient or temperature-resistant a profile is:
- PVC (70 ShA): Hard and robust, ideal for applications where the profile must be particularly stable and resistant.
- TPE (standard 60 ShA, up to 80 ShA): An elastic material with ‘rubber-like’ properties. It is flexible, UV-resistant and can easily withstand temperature fluctuations. Harder versions (70–80 ShA) are particularly useful for components that are subject to heavy use.
👉 For guidance: the lower the Shore hardness, the softer and more adaptable the profile. Higher values mean greater stability and resistance.
Colours for clamping profiles & filling profiles
- Standard colours: Black, window grey
- Custom colours: Available in many other RAL colours for orders of 200 m or more – this allows profiles to be visually matched to vehicles or systems.
Typical areas of application
Clamping profiles and filling profiles are used in many areas:
- Vehicle construction: e.g. on doors of vans or lorry bodies. The clamping profile fixes securely to the edge, while the filling profile reliably seals the door.
- Container and skip construction: Here, the profiles prevent rainwater or dirt from entering the interior.
- Machines and systems: Clamping and filling profiles ensure secure connections between sheet metal, covers or flaps.
- General edge protection: In addition to sealing, they also protect the edges of the components themselves from damage.
Particularly practical: Different clamping ranges allow both thin sheets and thicker constructions to be clamped securely.
Installation & maintenance
Installation is quick and easy:
- Press the clamping profile onto the edge. Thanks to its metal core, it will immediately sit securely in place.
- Then insert the appropriate filler profile to close the opening.
Regular visual inspection and cleaning are sufficient to maintain the sealing effect in the long term. If cracks or deformations occur, the profile can be easily replaced.
