Glass seals and glazing seals for furniture and partition walls

Our glass seals and glazing seals create a defined transition between the glass and adjacent furniture, frame or partition wall elements. Various profile geometries made from PVC and TPE allow for adaptation to different glass thicknesses, mounting options and installation situations.

Glass seals for furniture and partition walls

Glass seals are used wherever glass needs to be integrated securely and correctly into a structure. Typical applications include display cabinets, cupboard doors, shelving, glass furniture and transparent partition walls.

Depending on the profile geometry, a glazing seal can fulfil various functions. It can position the glass within a frame, compensate for gaps, create a defined contact area or prevent direct contact between the glass and adjacent hard components.

For the seal to function correctly, it is crucial that the glass thickness and the profile recess are compatible. A recess that is too large or too small may result in the glass not sitting in the profile as intended.

PVC and TPE glass seals

Our glass seals are made from PVC or TPE. Both materials allow for flexible profile designs, but differ in their material behaviour.

PVC is suitable for a wide range of technical profile geometries and is available for our glass seals in, amongst other things, 55 ShA.

TPE combines elasticity and resilience with defined dimensional stability. Depending on the profile, Shore hardnesses ranging from 60 to 70 ShA are used within this product group.

The choice of suitable material depends on the mounting, the glass thickness, the required flexibility and the overall profile geometry.

Shore hardnesses from 55 to 70 ShA

Our glass and glazing seals cover a hardness range of 55 to 70 ShA. This means that both softer PVC versions and more elastic, dimensionally stable TPE profiles are available.

Shore A hardness describes the hardness of an elastic material. A lower value generally indicates a softer and more pliable material. Higher values indicate greater material hardness and dimensional stability.

However, Shore hardness is not the only factor determining actual performance. Wall thickness, lips, ribs and the shape of the glass holder also influence how flexible the profile behaves once installed.

Different profile geometries and glass retainers

Glass structures vary in terms of glass thickness, frame construction and available installation space. Accordingly, we offer various cross-sections for different applications.

When making your selection, the following features in particular should be taken into account:

• Glass thickness
• Width and height of the profile
• Shape and depth of the glass recess
• Lips and webs
• Fastening geometry
• Material and Shore hardness

It is not just the external dimensions that determine the fit. Two glazing profiles of similar size may be intended for completely different glazing structures due to differences in their mounting geometries.

Glass seals with anti-stretch thread

Selected TPE glass seals are available with or without anti-stretch thread.

The integrated thread prevents unwanted longitudinal stretching of the elastic profile during installation. This is particularly useful for longer glazing runs. If the profile is pulled too tightly during installation, it may subsequently contract again, causing gaps to form at the ends or junctions.

The anti-stretch thread therefore helps to ensure installation with as little tension as possible and with dimensional stability. For profiles designed accordingly, a choice can be made between a version with or without the thread.

Colours of our glass seals

Depending on the profile, our glass seals and glazing seals are available in black, beige, brown, window grey, light grey, anthracite grey and basalt grey.

This means that both classic dark shades and various shades of grey and beige are available for furniture, frame and partition wall constructions. Particularly in the case of exposed glazing, the profile colour can be specifically matched to adjacent surfaces and frames.

For bespoke projects, we also manufacture seals from 200 metres in your chosen colour.

Choosing the right glass seal

When selecting a glass seal, the existing structure should first be precisely identified. The glass thickness is particularly important, as the profile’s glass retention must be tailored to it.

Further selection criteria include:

• complete profile cross-section
• glass retention
• profile height and width
• PVC or TPE
• Shore hardness
• lips and ribs
• fastening geometry
• anti-stretch cord, if required
• desired colour

If an existing glazing seal is to be replaced, it is advisable to use a sample that is as undistorted as possible for comparison. A profile should not be selected solely on the basis of its visible width or height.

Fitting glass seals correctly

Before fitting, the glass, the frame and the adjacent contact surfaces should be clean and free from dust, old profile residues and other contaminants.

The glazing seal should be fitted evenly and, as far as possible, without tension. Particular care should be taken to avoid unnecessary longitudinal tension, especially with elastic TPE profiles. Profiles fitted with anti-stretch threads further limit unwanted longitudinal elongation.

After insertion, check that the seal sits evenly and that the glass is held in place in accordance with the intended design.
