Glass profiles for joints and transition areas
When two glass elements meet within a piece of furniture or a partition wall, a suitable glass profile can be used to create a precise transition. The profile establishes a defined contact between the adjacent elements whilst preventing the glass edges from coming into direct contact with one another.
Such glass joint profiles are suitable, for example, for display cabinets, glass surfaces in furniture, transparent room dividers and other structures where glass elements are joined together.
It is always crucial that the profile cross-section and mounting fit the specific glass and installation situation.
Transparent PVC for unobtrusive glass structures
For this application, our glass joint profiles are manufactured from PVC. The material allows for a flexible profile geometry and can be tailored to meet various technical requirements.
A transparent version is available for visible glass structures. This ensures that the profile recedes visually into the background relative to the glass and can be discreetly integrated into appropriate furniture and partition wall solutions.
The glass profile is available with a Shore hardness of 55 ShA. This degree of hardness combines a certain degree of flexibility with the necessary dimensional stability for the intended profile cross-section.
Selecting the right glass joint seal
When selecting a glass joint profile, one should not consider only the visible width. The full cross-section and the way in which the adjacent glass elements are guided within the structure are crucial.
Important selection criteria are:
- Glass thickness
- Shape and dimensions of the profile cross-section
- Intended spacing between the glass elements
- Mounting geometry
- Installation situation
- Desired visual effect
If an existing glass profile is to be replaced, it is advisable to use a sample piece that is as undamaged as possible for comparison. Particularly with narrow profiles, even small differences in the cross-section can affect the fit.
Glass joint profiles for furniture and partition walls
Glass joint profiles can be used wherever glass elements within a structure need to be neatly joined together. In furniture making, this applies, for example, to display cabinets, cupboards or other pieces of furniture with visible glass surfaces.
With transparent partition walls, too, suitable profiles can create a defined transition between individual glass elements.
It is not just the visual effect that is important here. It is equally important that the profile and the glass thickness are structurally compatible and that the profile sits evenly across the entire joint.
Fitting glass profiles correctly
Before fitting, glass surfaces and contact areas should be clean and free from any interfering residues. The profile is then inserted evenly along the intended joint area.
It should not be unnecessarily stretched or compressed. Tension-free installation ensures an even fit along the entire length.
After insertion, check that the profile lies flush against the glass elements and that the joint is formed in accordance with the intended design.
Custom colours for bespoke applications
For glass structures, a transparent design is particularly understated and offers great visual versatility. For bespoke projects, we can also manufacture sealant and profile colours in your chosen colour for orders of 200 metres or more.
This allows us to meet specific design or structural requirements where a standard profile is unsuitable in terms of colour or finish.
