Gates and system doors are often large, subject to heavy use, and in many cases directly exposed to the weather. Whether in industrial halls, garages, workshops, or public areas, reliable sealing is crucial to minimize energy loss, keep moisture out, and ensure ease of use. The right seal ensures that gates and doors close smoothly, fit tightly, and continue to function properly for years to come.
Seals for gates and system doors
Seals for gates and system doors must be robust, dimensionally stable, and at the same time elastic enough to provide a permanent seal even when opened and closed frequently. High forces act particularly on transitions and large-area elements, which is why the choice of material and profile geometry must be tailored to the intended use. Good resilience, resistance to weathering and mechanical stress, and the right Shore hardness are crucial for a long service life.
Materials
- PVC – Standard Shore hardness 55 ShA, proven, weather-resistant, and cost-efficient.
- TPE – Standard Shore hardness 60 ShA, available from 30 to 80 ShA; high elasticity, very good resilience, UV and temperature resistant.
- Silicone – ideal for extreme temperatures, optionally talc-coated or non-talc-coated; durable and elastic even with extreme temperature changes.
TPE – the key material
TPE is particularly important in this category, as it combines the elasticity of rubber with the dimensional stability of plastic. Thanks to its Shore hardness range of 30 to 80 ShA, it can be precisely tailored to the respective application. Soft grades (30–50 ShA) adapt optimally to uneven surfaces, the standard value of 60 ShA offers a good balance for most systems, and hard grades (70–80 ShA) are ideal for precision-engineered systems with high mechanical loads. This flexibility is crucial, as gate and door systems can have very different sealing requirements – from lightweight interior systems to heavy-duty exterior gates.
Design features and variants
Many of our gate and door seals are equipped with a pull-out bar, which facilitates installation and ensures a secure fit. The GfA anti-stretch thread prevents elongation due to temperature fluctuations or mechanical stress. Variants such as talcum-coated or self-lubricating versions facilitate installation and extend service life.

Installation & maintenance
Before installation, the contact area should be clean and dry. The seal is inserted without tension and pressed down evenly. Talc-coated versions are easier to work with. Regular cleaning and visual inspection increase the service life. Damaged or hardened seals should be replaced promptly.
